Kevin McCloud journeys to the foothills of the Andes to meet a family from South London who've quit the daily grind to build a new home right next to one of Chile's most active volcanos. Dad, Jago was an IT project manager, mum Lucy a lawyer, but they gave it all up to live a simpler life with their three young children in the remote mountains of South America. Kevin arrives at the site on horseback to discover the family is still constructing their home – but what an incredible home it will be. They're making it with their bare hands for less than the price of London garage using bags filled with earth and trees from the forest transported by oxen. Kevin is impressed by the structure but troubled by one key question: why would you choose to live in the shadow a highly volatile volcano? It could blow at any minute. To confront his fears Jago invites Kevin to climb the volcano and stare into its heart – a truly terrifying experience. Kevin also experiences family life and examines why this bold and adventurous British couple have sold up, left the London 9-5, and taken their children to the wild mountains of Chile. While they are poorer now, Kevin soon appreciates that their lives are much richer for it.
