This week Alan and the team tackle a long, thin garden in the heart of London. They've been asked to transform the rundown outside space of Joan Myers OBE, a senior nurse who has worked tirelessly to help improve the way children are cared for within the NHS. As she devotes so much of her time to looking after others, Joan has let her own garden become overgrown and certainly not the peaceful retreat she needs after a hard day's work. So Alan summons his cohorts to take on the challenge of turning this tricky plot into something beautiful. Access is through two helpful neighbours' gardens, but once it's been stripped back to bare earth the new design starts to take shape. Alan wants Joan to have a soothing oasis outside her backdoor with flavours of Africa and the Caribbean, as well as more than a splash of her favourite colour, purple. As a reflection of the community spirit that Joan has shown, Alan also challenges the team to makeover three front gardens, finding different ways of revitalising these tired and forgotten spaces into welcoming vistas. David Domoney, Frances Tophill and Katie Rushworth embrace the competition and try and outdo each other to win favour from Alan. But which one will he award the coveted Love Your Garden trowel?
