Monty is in the Lime Walk which is the main link from the house to the garden. It changes across the seasons and over the twenty years since its creation, the roots have grown and it's not only got darker because everything's got bigger, but also it's got much much drier, so the planting has changed. Monty has already put in ferns about a month ago, so the next stage is to add to that planting but also move plants out. Carol Klein was firstly in Chatley Heath, Surrey looking at wild and cultivated heathers and then visited RHS Wisley who hold the National Collection of heathers. She met Matthew Pottage, Garden Manager who explained that the work they do there helps preserve this group of plants and why they are well worth rediscovering. Heathers were hugely popular in the 1970 but had fallen out of favour.
